Fuller’s Head of the River Fours
This weekend our senior crews took part in Fuller’s Head; with the women making their first appearance in recorded history. Taking on the Tideway, we had a total of nineteen athletes among four crews.
Starting 49th, our men’s 4+ comprised of Chris Bock, Alex Chisholm, Aidan Witts, Joseph White, and Drew Nielson (cox); of which the latter three represented the University for the first time. While the competition was tough, they competed well and have their sights set on the next Tideway race: Head of the River.
Our only coxless quad was made up of Ailsa Martin, Emily Haworth, Alice Vine, and Louise Sandland. Putting all of their training to the ultimate test, the quad placed 6th in their category and have definitely set themselves a precedent to follow in the future.
The Women’s 4+ Academic Band 1 held its ground remarkably by placing third within a category dominated by three Cambridge University and two Oxford University crews. A huge congratulations to Kirstin Giddy, Lydia Theos, Gabriele Keblyte, Jodie Cameron, and Elena Guild (cox) for their performance as the only club in the category that does not have their own boat race.
We were especially happy to see the Women’s 4+ Academic Band 2 place 7th in their category considering that the rowers consisted entirely of girls who learnt to row at St Andrews. Morgan Young, Madeleine Matthews, Isabel Hesse, Marrisa McMahon and Ryan Glymond (cox) were very happy with their performance and their experience has pushed them to set their sights on further competition in the future.
The Club was joined by Eden Boat Club for dinner later that evening to celebrate each individual’s performance.
