Coaches

The rowing programme at St Andrews is led by our Director of Rowing, Alan Sinclair, and a team of experienced coaches and support staff. 

Director of Rowing: Alan Sinclair

Alan began rowing aged 14 at Inverness Rowing Club, working his way up through the different levels of Scottish Rowing, rowing at the University of Aberdeen and then Leander before joining the GB Rowing Team in 2012. He is a four-time international medallist and an Olympic finalist at Rio 2016, so has a wealth of knowledge and experience. 

He began coaching with UStABC in May 2021, guiding the club through a return to water training and racing. Alan said of his appointment, “I’m delighted to have been appointed as Director of Rowing and am honoured and excited to become a part of this ambitious, dedicated and close-knit team. I am looking forward to using my experience to enable the athletes to make the most of their time at the University of St Andrews, and to support a developing programme.”
