Yesterday, the club competed in the Head of the River Race in London. After the unfortunate cancellation of the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race two weeks previously, due to bad weather, it was all on the men to bring home a new Tideway result, and they certainly did not disappoint.

It was an outstanding performance from our Senior Men’s 1st VIII. They finished in 62nd position out of 301 crews, a new UStABC course record. The previous record, set in 2016, was 134th position. The boys won the Medium Academic Pennant Award, which they were awarded at the prize giving ceremony at the London Rowing Club after the race.

This fantastic result is of course down to all the hard work and dedication that the boys have put into the boat during training, and also to the vision and support of our Director of Rowing, Jordan Stanley.

A massive thank you must also be given to Hudson UK, for lending us a USP rental boat. Being able to race with such high quality equipment makes a considerable difference to our performance, and allows our squads to see the results they deserve.

UStABC is constantly striving to give our athletes the best possible chance to succeed, and our success is largely due to the support we receive through donations. We will soon be launching a match donation campaign, that we hope will allow us to purchase new boats, and enable our squads to see more fantastic results such as the new club course record set yesterday.
