Last weekend, we competed at the Scottish Rowing 2019 Spring Regatta at Strathclyde Park. Racing was spread out over the Saturday and Sunday, and the Club saw excellent results each day.

At the end of the weekend, the Club as whole were awarded runners-up of the Scottish Student Rowing Victor Ludorum. We beat eight other Scottish universities, making UStABC the top non-funded university rowing club in Scotland.

The Senior Men’s team competed in seven finals, of which five were gold medal performances.

Men’s Intermediate Coxed Fours: Chris, Henry, Oscar, Campbell, Holly (cox).

Men’s Intermediate Doubles: Aidan and Dom.

Men’s Championship Paris: Oscar and Henry.

Men’s Intermediate Eights: Monty, Aidan,Johnny, George, Chris, Henry, Oscar, Campbell, Holly (cox).

Men’s Intermediate Coxless Quads: Aidan, Dom, Oscar, Henry.

George and Chris also took a strong third place finish in the final of the Men’s Intermediate Pairs, and Dom finished third in his single in the Men’s Intermediate category.

On the Senior Women’s side, we had nine crews racing in six finals. Lydia and Kirstin finished in first place in the Women’s Championship Pairs, and together with Skye, Morgan and Sarah (cox), they took their second gold medal in the Women’s Intermediate Coxed Fours. Alongside them our B crew, composed of Morgan Young, Alice, Izzy, Delaney and Holly (cox), finished third, showing our strong squad depth in this event. In the Women’s Intermediate Pairs, Izzy and Delaney finished in a fantastic third place.

For our novices, it was their first ever experience of regatta racing, and they loved it! Our Women’s Beginner Four (Annie, Anne, Daisy, Maddie and Angus (cox)) finished in second place. In the Women’s Beginner Eights they finished third place in the final. Our novice men also had a strong race in their quad, finishing in third place in the Open Novice Coxed Quads final.

The weekend was great preparation for BUCS Regatta, which will be held in Nottingham this weekend. Our crews can now feel confident going into another weekend of 2000m racing, and we are excited to see how we will shape up against the English, Irish and Welsh universities!
